LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team is tied for second place after two rounds at the Wildcat Fall Invite, finishing the opening day with a two-round total of 590 (291-299) Saturday at the University Club. Sophomore Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) is tied for second place after firing an even-par 144 (70-74) to lead the Wildcats.
Kentucky, which led 15-team field after the first round of play, is currently six strokes behind the tournament?s leader, Florida. The Gators shot a 584 (296-288) to conclude the first day at eight-over-par. Florida freshman Mallory Blackwelder finished at five-under-par with a 139 (68-71) to head the tournament field.
?It?s really exciting to see our team start to put together some good rounds,? UK head coach Stephanie Barker said. ?To post a 291 in the first round and back that up with a 299 in the second round is really impressive.?
Senior Erin Faulkner (Bowling Green, Ky.) is tied for fourth place after carding a squad-best 71 in the second round. Faulkner finished the day with a one-over-par 145 (74-71).
?Erin competed and played steadily all day,? Barker said. ?To come back with a 71 in the second round is just awesome.?
Fellow senior Ali Kicklighter (DeLand, Fla.) shot a 153 (77-76) to finish tied for 23rd place, while sophomore Elizabeth Dotson (White Bluff, Tenn.) fired a first-round 70 before finishing the day at 156 (70-86) tied for 41st place. Junior Emily Culbertson (Crestview Hills, Ky.) carded a 160 (82-78) to finish in 54th place, rounding out the field for the Wildcats.
Kentucky continues play with the final 18 holes of the Wildcat Fall Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Sunday with a shotgun start.
