LEXINGTON, Ky. ? University of Kentucky golfers Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Katie Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) were named Division I All-America Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association for the 2004-05 academic year, head coach Stephanie Barker announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must hold a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and also must participate in at least 50 percent of the college?s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
?I am excited for Beth and Katie,? Barker said. ?Both of them work extremely hard both on the golf course and in the classroom. These student-athletes epitomize what our program is all about.?
Felts, a sophomore pre-physical therapy major, also was named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll last spring. Johnson, a junior biology major, was a member of the 2005 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Kentucky returns to action Saturday, Oct.1, as it hosts its only home event of the season, the Wildcat Fall Invitational, at the University Club?s Big Blue Course in Lexington. The tournament runs through Sunday. Live stats of the event will be available at ukathletics.com.
