The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight games today, Sept. 18, with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Western Kentucky. The Wildcats move to 4-0-4 on the year, while the Hilltoppers are now 2-4-2.

This was the fourth overtime contest for UK who is now winless in 11 straight overtime games. The Cats tied a school record with four ties in a single season, which was also accomplished during the 2003 season when UK went 6-9-4.

UK got on the board first as Kate Rowlands fed Callie Lanphier who broke away from the defense to put the ball past the WKU goalkeeper in the 28th minute to put the Wildcats on top 1-0. The goal is the second for Lanphier this season, while Rowlands earned her first assist of the year on the play.

WKU knotted the score at a goal apiece late in the second half when Christi Banas scored in the 73rd minute to force the overtime periods.

WKU recorded one shot in the first overtime, while Kentucky didn?t record an attempt. UK had two shots in the second extra period to one shot by the Toppers but none found the back of the net.

The Wildcats outshot the Hilltoppers 24-12 and had 12 corner kicks on the day. WKU had four corner kicks.

?I thought we totally dominated the game and we just gave up a bad goal,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?We had plenty of chances before that and we should have finished one of them. We?ve got to find a way to put those away. We controlled the ball for 80 percent of the game, but somebody needs to step up and score a goal.?

The Cats return to action Friday, Sept. 23, when they open Southeastern Conference play against Louisiana State. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
