Kentucky women?s tennis had a tough start in the opening tournament of the season by winning one of five doubles matches Friday at the St. Mary?s Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Junior Liis Sober, of Estonia, and junior Caroline Winebrenner picked up the team?s lone victory in their first match in the consolation bracket against the duo of Amy Cao and Christine Dao of Rice 8-5.

The No. 9 doubles tandem of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk lost both their matches on the day.

The first and second rounds of singles play begin Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Goodfriend Tennis Center and UT?s Varsity Courts with six Wildcat players in action.
