The undefeated Kentucky women?s soccer team returns home on Friday, Sept. 16, as it hosts Marshall in a 7:30 p.m. start at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats (3-0-3) remained unbeaten after they battled to their second straight double overtime tie in their last outing at Ohio State on Sept. 11.
The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 17-4 this season and have recorded a pair of shutouts. Nine different players have scored a goal for UK, led by freshman Kate Hughes with four. Freshman Nicola Holdsworth and sophomore Sarah Gaunt have each scored three times, while sophomore Callie Lanphier has a pair of goals this season. Junior goalkeeper Anne Ogundele has been impressive in the net for Kentucky, allowing just three goals this season for a 0.47 goals against average.
MU is currently 1-4-0 on the year after earning a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern last Sunday, Sept. 11, in Huntington. Marshall has scored just two goals this season, but hasn?t allowed more than two by any opponent this year. Goalkeeper Kai Nordness has made 21 saves and owns a 1.40 goals against average in five starts.
Kentucky leads 2-0-0 in the all-time series with the Thundering Herd. The two last faced off on Aug. 31, 2001, when the Cats topped the Herd 2-1 in Lexington.
?This will be another test for our team,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?We have a lot of young players and they?re really beginning to gel both on and off the field. A lot of people have stepped up for us already this season and I hope to see more of the same tomorrow night against Marshall.?
