Former Kentucky guard Jenny Pfeiffer is returning to the Wildcat Kentucky women?s basketball team, Coach Mickie DeMoss announced Tuesday.
Pfeiffer, a 5-8 guard from North Vernon, Ind., left the UK Hoops team in August 2004 after sitting out a large portion of her sophomore season (2003-04) with mononucleosis. Prior to her illness, Pfeiffer had started 17 games and was one of three players to average double digits, finishing with 11.8 points per game. She also missed 12 games as a freshman (2002-03) after breaking her left non-shooting hand in practice. She had started 11 straight games prior to that injury and was the team’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game. Pfeiffer has played in 32 games with 28 starts in her UK career and holds a career average of 11.1 ppg.
?After taking a year off I feel 100 percent ready, mentally and physically, to return playing the sport I love,? Pfeiffer said. ?I am now totally healthy and am thankful to Coach DeMoss for giving me the opportunity to be back on the team at UK. I hope to pick up where I left off my sophomore year.?
?We are pleased that Jenny is returning to our program,? DeMoss said. ?Looking back on the situation, I don?t think any of us realized how sick she was during her sophomore year. We are happy that she is healthy now and back with us. Jenny and I have met on several occasions this summer and our staff is very comfortable having her back on the team.?
Pfeiffer will have two years of eligibility remaining.
