LEXINGTON, Ky. ? University of Kentucky runner Lavera Morris qualified for Friday?s junior women?s 800 meter final at the USA Track and Field Championships in Carson, Calif., Thursday.

Morris recorded a time of 2:10.70 in the preliminary heat of the women?s junior 800 meters, crossing the finish line fourth in her heat and eighth overall. The Orlando, Fla., native will compete at 8:30 p.m. EDT on Friday.

BYU?s Heidi Magill recorded the top qualifying mark of the three heats, posting a time of 2:07.27.

Wildcat Stephan Smith was scheduled to compete in the men?s junior 800 meter preliminary on Thursday, however because of two scratches in the field the preliminary heats were cancelled. The men?s junior 800 meter final will be run at 8:40 p.m. EDT on Friday.
