SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? Senior Jeff Chakouian started off slow during the qualifying round of the shot put at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday night. However, the Seekonk, Mass., native bounced back and qualified for Friday?s final with his third and final heave of 62-07 ?.

Chakouian threw 58-4 ? in his first attempt and scratched on his second toss. The five-time All-American heads into the shot put final with the third-best toss from the two-flight field. Chakouian will compete in the men?s shot put finals, which are scheduled to begin at 11:15 p.m. EDT Friday.

Sophomore Andy Fryman ended his season at the championships with his meet-best mark of 55-4 ?, which came during his first attempt. The sophomore was making his first appearance at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Freshman Michael Mason will try to leap into the finals during Thursday?s qualifying competition. Making his inaugural NCAA championship appearance, the Nanoose Bay, B.C., native, will compete at 3:30 p.m. EDT in the men?s high jump.
