Seniors Jeff Hamberg and John Holmes were recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division At-Large teams. Hamberg was named to the First Team, while Holmes earned Second Team honors. District IV is comprised of colleges and universities in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
Hamberg was named National Rifle Association honorable mention All-American in the Smallbore Rifle competition in 2003-04 and was also named All-Great American Rifle Conference first-team in the smallbore and second-team in combined score. The Wildcats placed sixth in the NCAA Championships this season.
Hamberg, a senior from Fort Wayne, Ind., has earned a 3.891 grade point average, with a double major in foreign languages and international economics. He has earned Dean’s List honors in each semester at Kentucky and was recognized in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and is a four-time Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Academic All-American. In 2003-04, he was named the Great American Rifle Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Holmes has maintained a 3.26 grade point average while majoring in Sports Management. The Campbellsville, Ky., native has been a member of the Dean?s List, SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named the State Farm Insurance Student-Athlete of the Month.
Holmes was named the SEC Golfer of the Year and was named First Team All-SEC for his performance during his senior season. Holmes and the Wildcats will travel to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 in Owings Mills, Md., as they vie for the national championship.
