LEXINGTON ? Third-seeded Kentucky kicked off its 16th appearance in the NCAA women?s tennis tournament with a 4-0 NCAA-regional win over Mid-American Conference champion Marshall Friday at UK?s Boone Tennis Complex. The victory sets up a regional-final meeting with 28th-ranked Wake Forest, who narrowly escaped No. 37 Indiana by a 4-3 count in the regional opener. The Cats and Demon Deacons are scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. EDT, though inclement weather may delay the start of the match.

Kentucky led off doubles play with a convincing victory at No. 1, as UK?s Sarah Foster and Aibika Kalsarieva tallied an 8-3 win over Joelle Good and Danielle Hock. Marshall?s Shannon Brown and Lille Nzudie held a 6-3 lead over UK?s Emily Foster and Lara Maurer at the No. 3 slot, but the match was abandoned when Kentucky?s 22nd-ranked tandem of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk clinched the doubles point with a hard-fought 9-7 win over MU?s Ashley Kroh and Danielle Schwartz.

UK?s Maurer extended her unbeaten streak to six matches and gave the Cats a 2-0 lead after scoring a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jeanne Schwartz at fifth singles. Sarah Foster fought back from a 5-4 first-set deficit to capture the set, 7-5, before finishing off Marshall?s Joelle Good in the second set, 6-1, to give Kentucky a 3-0 lead. Junior Danielle Petrisko picked up her fourth win in her last five matches, defeating the Herd?s Shannon Brown to clinch the Kentucky victory.

Kentucky improves to 11-15 in NCAA tournament play and advances to its fifth-consecutive regional final. A Wildcat victory Saturday would ensure the program?s fourth-consecutive trip to the NCAA round of 16.
