Top-seeded Kentucky opens day two of the Southeastern Conference Women?s Tennis Tournament Friday, as the Cats await eighth-seeded Mississippi State. The match is set for 10:00 a.m. EDT at the Alabama Tennis Complex. Live scoring will be available at rolltide.com and secsports.com.
Kentucky earned its top seed by compiling a 10-1 league record to win its first SEC regular-season title. UK clinched the title on Apr. 10 with a 4-3 win at Tennessee. Kentucky fell just shy in its bid for a perfect conference season, as Vanderbilt claimed a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Cats in the regular-season finale last Saturday in Lexington.
Kentucky first must get past Mississippi State in its quest for the conference tournament title. MSU advanced to the SEC quarterfinals by coming from behind to defeat LSU, 4-3. The Bulldogs feature the 2005 SEC Freshman of the Year in Zsuzsanna Fodor, who sits at the top of the Bulldog singles lineup. UK dealt the 30th-ranked Bulldogs a 7-0 defeat earlier this season in Lexington.
The Cats would meet the winner of Friday?s match between fourth-seeded Tennessee and fifth-seeded Georgia should Kentucky advance to Saturday?s semifinals.
