The Kentucky men?s golf team will look for its first SEC championship this weekend when it returns to action, Apr. 15-17, at the Southeastern Conference Championships. The three-day event will take place at the Sea Island Golf Club?s Seaside Course in Sea Island, Ga.
The Wildcats were idle last weekend after claiming their second tournament title of the spring season in their last outing, Mar. 29. UK won a playoff over No. 12 Augusta State to take home the hardware at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Charleston, S.C.
The Wildcats and ASU finished the three rounds of play with identical scores of 866 to force the extra hole. Kentucky birdied the first hole to earn the tournament title.
The Wildcats are ranked 17th in the latest poll of the Golf Coaches Association and will face elite competition this weekend. Fellow ranked SEC schools include No. 3 Georgia, No. 6 Florida, No. 9 Auburn, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 18 South Carolina and No. 25 Alabama.

“This is the best time of year for our team. The weather is great and we have been working diligently on our games in preparation for the SEC Championship,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?Our goal is to be the first Kentucky men’s golf team to win the conference championship. We have the toughest league in Division I golf in the SEC. However, the guys are focused and up for the challenge. I can’t wait to get started.”
