LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky claimed five of the first six singles sets played, but Tennessee rallied for a 5-2 win over the Cats Sunday at UK?s Boone Tennis Complex.
Tennessee (11-6, 6-4) captured the doubles point, but Kentucky seniors Tigran Martirosyan and Jesse Witten defeated their third-consecutive top-10 opponent when they knocked off UT?s Ockie Oosthuizen and Ben Rogers by an 8-6 count at No. 1 singles.
Witten evened the tally at one by handily defeating Tennessee?s Mark Dietrich in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Martirosyan put the Cats on top when he set aside UT?s Morgan Wilson, 6-2, 6-3. Tennessee?s Kaden Hensel knotted the score at two when defeated UK?s Carey Rubin, 6-2, 6-2.
UT seized control of the match by overcoming one-set deficits at the Nos. 5, 2, and 3 singles positions. Tennessee?s Kiril Tcherveniachki, Bobby Cameron and Ockie Oosthuizen closed out the match with wins in their final two sets.
Kentucky (16-8, 5-5) heads out of conference to play host to Indiana State and Morehead State on Tuesday at the Boone Tennis Complex.
