RICHMOND, Ky.- The University of Kentucky junior varsity women?s golf team took the lead after the second round at the Colonel Classic in Richmond, Ky., and never looked back. The Cats ended the tournament in first-place Saturday with a three-day total of 930 (312-305-313). UK?s Erin Faulkner tied for second with a total of 227 (76-74-77).
Kentucky finished ahead of Murray State by six strokes, as the Racers ended the tournament with a three-day total of 936 (305-320-311). Host Eastern Kentucky took third with a score of 945, while, Tennessee Tech finished fourth with three-day score of 957. Tennessee Tech?s Beth Underhill fell from her two-day lead after shooting a third round 80. Underhill finished tied for second with a score of 227. EKU?s Brittainy Klein took top honors with a three-day total of 223 (73-77-73).
Sophomore Emily Culbertson ended the tournament in sixth, firing an individual tournament low 75 for the third round. Culbertson recorded a three-day score of 230 (78-77-75), while senior Stacy Springer took 10th with a three-day total of 236 (74-77-85). Sophomore Katie Johnson recorded a score of 239 (84-77-78) for the tournament to tie for 11th and sophomore counterpart Marissa Muir shot an individual tournament low 83 to round out the Kentucky five.
Kentucky?s junior varsity individuals faired well in Richmond, taking two top-ten honors. Senior Katie Dixon and sophomore Alanna Silvertrust, both competing as individuals, finished in eighth-place with a three-day total of 235. Dixon and Silvertrust both fired third-round scores of 75, which was a career-low round for Dixon. Senior Chapin Hoskins tied for 18th with a score of 245 (81-82-82).
Kentucky?s varsity women?s golf team competed at the SEC Championship in Oxford, Miss., April 14-17.
