It didn?t take long for Keenan Burton to make his presence felt in spring practice.

The sophomore wide receiver, who missed most of the 2004 season because of a broken wrist, made a spectacular leaping catch for a touchdown during Kentucky?s two-hour, 15-minute practice Friday morning at Commonwealth Stadium.

The pass was a bomb to the end zone thrown by quarterback Andre? Woodson. The Wildcat defensive back had the play well-covered, but Burton used his 6-2 height and excellent jumping ability to leap over the defender and make the TD grab.

?I?m catching the ball in good shape,? Burton said after practice. ?I?m still trying to protect it (the wrist) a little mentally, but it (getting adjusted) will come with repetition.?

Burton sustained the fracture in practice the week before the 2004 season opener. He played briefly in the first two games, but was unable to perform effectively and sat out the remainder of the season. Fortunately, he is eligible for a medical hardship and will not lose the year of eligibility.

Not only is Burton happy about getting back on the field, but also is looking forward to playing in the revamped offense that could feature a greater emphasis on the passing game.

?I feel good about Andre?,? Burton said. ?He?s one of the best passers I?ve ever seen. I?m excited to be a receiver for him and make plays for him.?

Kentucky returns to practice Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Practices are held in Commonwealth Stadium or the Nutter Field House. Practices are open to the public and media.
