The Kentucky softball team will host its second Southeastern Conference series when it welcomes No. 13 Georgia to town for a mid-week matchup, March 15-16. Play begins Tuesday with a doubleheader, slated to begin at 1 p.m. The third and final game is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Wildcats went 1-2 over the weekend when they hosted the Ole Miss Rebels in their opening conference series of the season. UK took the first game to push its winning streak to eight straight games before dropping the final two games of the series to move to 12-16 on the year.
Georgia is coming off a three-game sweep of Mississippi State in its SEC opener. The Bulldogs have won a season-high seven consecutive games and are now ranked 13th in the nation with a 19-7 overall record.
Georgia leads 24-7 in the all-time series with UK, including a sweep of the season series in Athens a year ago. First-year head coach Eileen Schmidt is 0-1 when facing the Bulldogs. Her former team, Northwestern Louisiana, fell to UGA during the 2004 campaign.
?After a good start against Ole Miss we made a number of mistakes in games two and three and the Rebels took it to us like all good teams do,? said Schmidt. ?The SEC is not easy, every team comes to play every day. We have to make that adjustment within our own camp and come out with a passion and a purpose against Georgia. They are coming off a successful series against Mississippi State and we will have our work cut out for us. We need to step back and come out with that focus and effort we had during our eight game streak and continue to get better.?
