Kentucky junior Jessica Thompson and sophomore Taryn Ignacio will make their second appearances at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in as many seasons after earning two of the 11 bids distributed Sunday at the NCAA Zone B Diving Meet at Georgia Tech.
Ignacio, a Richmond, Ky., native who competed for Florida State a season ago, won Sunday?s women?s platform event with a score of 453.05 to ensure an NCAA bid and finish as the top overall qualifier. Thompson placed 10th and earned an NCAA bid after collecting top-10 finishes all weekend. She took third in Friday?s three-meter event and sixth in Saturday?s one-meter event.
The UK men fell shy of earning NCAA invitations. Senior Mario Rodriguez led the Cats with a 13th-place showing on the platform while freshmen Ben Starchuk and Justin Montrie placed 14th and 17th, respectively.
Ignacio and Thompson will begin competition Thursday at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in W. Lafayette, Ind.
