UK senior All-American Aibika Kalsarieva rallied from a one-set deficit to put the finishing touches on a 4-3 come-from-behind Kentucky victory over South Carolina Friday at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center in Columbia.

Kentucky (14-3, 3-0) led off the match by extending its doubles-win streak to 12 matches. The 13th-ranked tandem of sophomores Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk captured its fourth-consecutive match at No. 2 doubles, defeating Christyn Lucas and Magda Wojdylo by an 8-1 count. Senior Emily Foster and sophomore Lara Maurer chalked up their fourth-straight win at the third doubles slot, defeating Fallon Koon and Megan McGavock, 8-5, to clinch the doubles point. Kalsarieva and sophomore Sarah Foster added an 8-6 win over Laura Ganzer and Danielle Wiggins at the first doubles position to extend their win streak six matches.

South Carolina (6-3, 1-2) answered its doubles loss with convincing straight-set victories at the four, five and three positions, respectively, to take a 3-1 lead. Undaunted, Kentucky commenced a formidable rally to seize the victory.

Junior Danielle Petrisko survived an opening-set tiebreaker and put away USC?s Koon in the second set, 6-2, to cut the deficit to 3-2. Coventry extended her singles-win streak to eight matches with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position to even the tally at three. Kalsarieva dropped her first set at No. 1 singles to USC?s Wiggins, 5-7, but rebounded for a 6-4 second-set win to prolong the match. After taking a 4-1 third-set lead, the match was moved indoors due to darkness. Kalsarieva barely flinched, taking the final set, 6-2 to give Kentucky its third-consecutive conference victory.

The Wildcats? win streak extends to eight matches and is their longest such streak since Kentucky captured eight-straight matches two seasons ago. Coincidentally, the 2003 streak began with a 4-3 win over South Carolina in Columbia; the current streak has been extended by an identical result. Kentucky matches its 3-0 start in SEC play from a season ago. Kentucky now owns a 14-9 advantage in its series with the Gamecocks.

The Cats return home to wrap up their weekend Sunday against No. 2 Florida. The Cats and Gators will do battle at 12 p.m. EST at the Boone Tennis Complex. Live scoring will be available at ukathletics.com.
