The Kentucky men?s golf team jumped four spots today, Mar. 7, to grab a tie for second at the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. The Wildcats posted a 282 in the second round, the lowest score of the day, to stand just nine strokes behind host-team and leader Georgia State?s 563 (280-283).

Kentucky (290-282) is tied for second with Georgia State (279-293), while Indiana is ranked third with a two-day total of 581 (284-297). Baylor holds the fifth spot with a score of 582 (289-293) through the first two rounds of play.

Seniors John Holmes and Brandon Waldrop continue to lead the Cats and each share a tie for fifth place with identical scores of 141 (70-71). Sophomore Cale Barr fired a team-best 69 in the second round to climb to 11th overall with his two-day total of 143 (74-69). The three-under-par round also marked a new career-best for the Versailles, Ky., native. Junior Matt Kohn improved his standing by 21 spots with his second-round 71, leaving him tied for 25th in the overall standings with a total of 148 (77-71). Senior Mark Blakefield rounds out the scoring for the Cats and is tied for 30th with a score of 149 (76-73) through two rounds of play.

Seniors Matt Wells and Jack Hudson, who are playing as individuals in Puerto Rico, have both posted stellar scores as well. Wells is tied for eighth with a score of 142 (70-72), while Hudson ranks 12th overall after shooting 144 (71-73) through two rounds of play.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday, Mar. 8, with an 8 AM shotgun start.
