UK junior Alex Hume picked up his third victory over a ranked opponent Sunday, but it wasn?t enough, as No. 5 Ole Miss sent No. 12 Kentucky to its second-consecutive defeat, 6-1, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss.
Kentucky (7-5, 0-2) produced solid doubles efforts at the Nos. two and three positions after dropping the first position, but the Rebels seized the doubles point. The Rebels (10-1, 2-0) increased their lead to 3-0 with victories at the sixth and fourth singles positions before UK?s Hume answered with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ole Miss? 52nd-ranked Jakob Klaeson. Ole Miss? fourth-ranked Catalin Gard clinched the win for the Rebels with a 6-4, 6-3 win over UK?s Witten at the first singles slot, ending Witten?s six-match win streak. Ole Miss added wins at the second and third singles slots for the final 6-1 margin.
