The University of Kentucky men?s golf team is currently in sixth place after the first round of the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate in Dorado, Puerto Rico. The Wildcats have a team score of 290 to stand 11 strokes behind host-team Georgia State (279).
Georgia Southern is second with a score of 280, followed by Southern Mississippi with a 282. Indiana (284) and Baylor (289) round out the top five spots in the nine-team field.
Seniors John Holmes and Brandon Waldrop lead the Wildcat golfers and are both tied for fifth overall after firing first-round scores of 70. Sophomore Cale Barr carded a 74 in the first day of play to tie for 32nd in the individual standings. Senior Mark Blakefield is ranked 44th with a score of 76, while junior Matt Kohn rounds out the scoring for Kentucky with his first-round 77 to tie for 46th overall.
Seniors Matt Wells and Jack Hudson are playing the tournament as individuals this weekend. Wells currently stands tied for fifth with a score of 70, while Hudson ranks 13th after shooting 71 on the first day of play.
The three-day tourney continues Monday, Mar. 7, at 8:15 AM and wraps up on Tuesday, Mar. 8, with an 8 AM shotgun start.
