LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky rifle team posted its second win in as many weeks by downing West Virginia and Rose Hulman on Saturday at Buell Armory.
Led by junior Vicki Goss, the Wildcats posted a 4611 to score the victory. Goss fired a 584 smallbore score and followed that up with a 582 on the air rifle course. It was the third time this season she has broken 580 in both events.
Goss?s scores carried Kentucky, which did not get typical performances out of both Ray Geyer and Chris Boggs. The team?s top smallbore shooter, Geyer posted his lowest score of the season before regrouping with a 581 in air rifle.
Boggs, who ranks behind only Geyer in air rifle average on the team, shot is lowest score of the season on the air rifle course. The round followed a solid 577 in smallbore.
The match was the final one for Kentucky before heading to NCAA Qualifying next weekend at Murray, Ky. It will be the third time this season and second time in three weeks the team has shot at Murray. Two weeks ago the Wildcats beat a 10-team field to win the Withrow Invitational at Murray.
