LEXINGTON, Ky.? The University of Kentucky track and field squads host the McCravy Memorial meet this Friday and Saturday at Nutter Field House. Friday night competition begins at 6:00 p.m. and continues Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
The McCravy Memorial meet is the second and final home meet for the Wildcats this season. The competition is named in honor of Rodriq McCravy, a former University of Kentucky track athlete. Rod died in 1987 while sleeping in his dorm room at age 19. Kentucky will host 13 teams for the two-day event including intra-state competitor Eastern Kentucky.
Kentucky looks to build upon last season?s top-finishes at the McCravy Memorial. The Cats reeled in 11 top-five finishes, including six first-place finishes. In the mix of top finishes was the women?s distance medley relay which took home first-place honors and a school record.
The Cats performed well in their 2005 debut at the Kentucky Invitational. Senior Gennessa Guzman had an impressive showing in the weight throw with a toss of 61-09.75 to break her own school record and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. The men?s relay teams also took home top honors in the 4×400 and 4×800-meter relays, while junior Chris Millisor finished second in the mile with a time of 4:16.22.
Live stats for both days will be available on ukathletics.com.
