Kentucky freshman Marcus Sundh and senior Jesse Witten fell just shy in their bid for their first doubles title Monday at the SEC Indoors at the Rivercenter Racquet Club in New Orleans.
Sundh, a Stockholm, Sweden native, and Witten, a three-time All-American from Naples, Fla., suffered an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Georgia?s 10th-ranked duo of Antonio Ruiz and John Isner. Witten also fell victim to Isner Sunday in the singles quarterfinals.
Junior Nate Emge?s run at the National College Tennis Classic in Indian Wells, Calif. came to an end in the quarterfinals. Emge retired in the second set of his match to Virginia?s 19th-ranked Doug Stewart after dropping the first set and trailing 4-2 in the second set. The 120th-ranked Emge made a productive run in the tournament capped by a victory over UCLA?s 39th-ranked Alberto Francis.
The Cats return to action this weekend at the Texas Indoors in Houston.
