Kentucky junior Alex Hume eliminated one of the top-seeded players and dispatched another opponent on his way to the quarterfinals Saturday at the SEC Indoor Championships in New Orleans, La.
The Alexandria, Va., native upset Georgia?s 28th-ranked Matic Omerzel, the tournament?s sixth-seeded player, by a 7-5, 6-4 count in the round of 32 before eliminating South Carolina?s Tom Eklund, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16. The unseeded Hume advances to the quarterfinals with top-seeded teammate Jesse Witten, who defeated Tennessee?s Bobby Cameron in straight sets and Ole Miss? Eric Claeson in a three setter.
Witten and freshman Marcus Sundh added a doubles win to move on to the doubles quarterfinals.
