Kentucky (6-3) is riding a two-game winning streak after defeating Charleston Southern and Marshall last week. UK has not seen action, due to final exams, since its 75-53 win Sunday over the Thundering Herd. UAB (1-7) returns to play after an 11-day break. The Blazers are coming off a 74-55 loss to Southeastern Conference opponent Alabama Dec. 7.

?It?s good to get home,? UK Coach Mickie DeMoss said. ?We?ve worked hard this week and have just gotten through with finals. We?re getting ready to tip it off with UAB and are excited about playing UAB and then Nicholls State on Tuesday at Rupp. UAB is under a new coach and although their record is 1-7, they?ve lost some close games. They have some new additions to their roster, so we?re not really sure who those people are going to be, but we?re looking forward to getting started.?

Senior Sara Potts leads the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game. Freshman Sarah Elliott follows with 10.2 ppg, shooting a team-high .600 percent from the field. She posted a career-high 22 points in UK?s last game vs. Marshall, scoring 18 in the second half. Freshmen Sam Mahoney and Chante? Bowman were added to the starting lineup vs. Charleston So., marking the first time two freshmen have been in the Cats? starting five since the 2000-01 season. The Cats are 2-0 since their insertion.

Coach Audra Smith is in her first season at UAB. The 1992 graduate of Virginia served as an assistant coach at her alma mater for 10 seasons. As a player she was a member of three consecutive Final Four teams (1990, 1991 and 1992). The Cavaliers reached the championship game in 1991 before falling to Tennessee where DeMoss was an assistant coach for the Lady Vols during that game. Three players are averaging in double-digits for the Blazers led by sophomore Carmen Guzman?s 15.8 ppg.

The Wildcats and the Blazers have not met since 1991 when UK defeated UAB 84-55 in Lexington. UK is 3-0 against UAB in the all-time series, including a 2-0 advantage when playing in Memorial Coliseum. The Cats are 59-26 against teams from UAB?s Conference USA.
