LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky gymnastics team was named Outreach Team of the Month by the UK Ohio Casualty Center for Academic & Tutorial Services (CATS). The gymnasts helped citizens in Lexington and Fayette counties for 82.5 hours in October.
?I like seeing the little kids faces when we volunteer,? UK gymnast Michelle Gales said. ?We are already very close as a team, but helping the community only brings us closer together.?
The Wildcats participated in activities such as the YMCA Fall Festival, Northern Elementary School Fall Festival and Lansdowne Elementary School?s Walk a Kid to School Day. In addition, members of the team have served as guest readers at Landsdowne Elementary School and are current mentors at Johnson Elementary school.
?I am very proud of the women for making such a commitment to helping the surrounding communities,? said UK head coach Hajle ?Mo? Muhammad. ?Volunteering makes an immediate impact on the community and enriches the lives of everyone involved.?
