Kentucky (6-10-1, 3-6-1) looks to extend the careers of five seniors for at least another week Friday evening when the Cats play host to Vanderbilt (5-6-5, 4-2-4) in the regular-season finale at the UK Soccer Complex. The contest is set for a 7:30 p.m. EDT start with the preceding Senior Night festivities to begin at approximately 7:15 p.m.
A Kentucky victory over the Commodores would clinch the eighth and final seed in next week?s SEC Tournament at Auburn. Should Kentucky lose, the Cats could still make the tournament field with a Georgia loss Friday at Tennessee coupled with ties or losses from Arkansas and South Carolina. If the Cats and ?Dores tie, Kentucky would make the tournament with a Georgia tie or loss plus an Arkansas tie or loss Friday at LSU. In the event of a Kentucky tie and a South Carolina win Friday against Florida, UK would win the tiebreaker against South Carolina by way of its 1-0 victory over the Gamecocks earlier this month.
Kentucky will bid farewell to seniors Alli Haeussler (Fairfield, Ohio), Jessica Laswell (Lexington, Ky.), Danielle Slupski (Columbus, Ohio), Laura Wendling (Edgewood, Ky.) and Erin Witchey (Columbus, Ohio) prior to the match. The five Wildcat seniors have accounted for 21 goals and 22 assists during their Kentucky careers, which included an NCAA Tournament berth in 2002.
Vanderbilt owns a 10-7 series advantage against Kentucky, though the Cats have claimed the last five meetings. UK dealt Vandy a 1-0 defeat a season ago in Nashville.
