LEXINGTON ? After scoring three goals and tallying an assist in two games, Kentucky men?s soccer standout Jamal Shteiwi was tabbed as the Mid-America Conference Player of the Week and named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Shteiwi, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native, led the Wildcats to a 2-0 mark on the week with wins over Bowling Green and Alabama A&M.
The senior midfielder notched his first career hat trick ? the fifth in school history ? against the Falcons with the second of the goals being the game winner. It was his third multi-goal game of the season.
Shteiwi then assisted on the game-winning goal against the Bulldogs in the 109th minute of Kentucky?s 1-0 win.
It is the fifth time in his career and second this season that Shteiwi has picked up the MAC honor. He won it twice last season and once in 2002. It is also the second time he has been tabbed by College Soccer News this year.
On the season, Shteiwi has scored 11 goals and tallied five assists. He has scored or assisted on 16 of 26 (62.5 percent) of the Wildcats goals this year. He leads the MAC in shots, points, goals and game-winning goals while ranking second in assists.
Shteiwi and Kentucky, 9-4-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC, return to action Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they play at Akron. With a win, the Wildcats can win their fourth conference championship in the past five years.
