LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer team looks to return to its winning ways on Friday when it hosts Mid-America conference foe Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats (7-4-2, 3-1 MAC) dropped their first conference game, 1-0 to Northern Illinois, in nearly two years in their last outing. Meanwhile, the Falcons suffered a tough, 2-1 overtime loss to Buffalo on Sunday.
?I think our players have done a good job putting Sunday?s loss behind us,? said Kentucky coach Ian Collins. ?We?ve had a great week of preparation and I think we?re ready to come out and give the fans a good showing.?
Friday?s game will rehash an old MAC rivalry that has existed since Kentucky joined the league in 1995. The series is evenly spilt at 8-8-1 and 10 of the last 12 meetings have been decided by one goal.
The teams have faced off in each of the past three conference tournament with Bowling Green knocking off the Wildcats in the last two.
?This is a rivalry that has kind of grown over the years,? said Collins. ?Bowling Green has a program I respect very much and that has always been near the top of our region. I fully expect a fierce game on Friday.?
Kentucky will look to continue its solid defensive play as the Wildcats have not allowed more than one goal in their last 11 outings.
Prior to the game the Kentucky coaches and players will conduct a free youth soccer clinic at the UK Soccer Complex. The clinic begins at 5 p.m. There will also be a team autograph session following the game.
