LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer team will go for it?s 10th consecutive Mid-America Conference victory on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when it hosts Northern Illinois at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats (7-3-2, 3-0 MAC) are coming off a scoreless tie with second-ranked Indiana and have lost just once in their last 10 games. Kentucky has not allowed a goal in it?s last two outings and has held each of its last 10 opponents to one goal or less.
?The players are understanding the defensive system better and they?re working hard in their efforts,? said Kentucky coach Ian Collins. ?That is something we?ll have to keep up on Sunday.?
Northern Illinois (8-4, 2-1) beat Bowling Green, 5-3, on Friday and has won seven of their last eight games.
?Northern Illinois is playing really well,? Collins said. ?(Coach) Steve Simmons has done a great job turning the program around. They are ranked in their region and are the most improved team in our league.?
Dating back to the end of the 2003 season, the Wildcats have put together a nine-game conference win streak and outscored its opponents 19-1. The streak is part of the MAC dominance Kentucky has shown, winning three conference titles in the past four years.
The Wildcats have owned the all-time series with the Huskies, winning eight of nine games. Kentucky has won six straight and shutout Northern Illinois in four of the past five meetings.
The game, which is the second in a four-game homestand, will be the back end of a doubleheader as the Kentucky women?s soccer team hosts South Carolina at Noon.
