University of Kentucky?s men?s golf team is ranked fourth in the nation according to the Golf World Men?s College Poll in the Golf World Sept. 1 edition. The Cats received two first place votes and moved up two places from the previous sixth place ranking in Golf World.

?We are honored to be ranked where we are it is a pretty accurate reflection of the talent on this team,? UK head coach Brian Craig said. ?It is still very early in the season and my real concern is where we finish in the rankings at the end of the season, but a fourth place ranking sure is a good start,? said Craig.

The team last competed at the Ping Preview in Owings Mills, MD with other nationally ranked teams from around the country. The Cats were led by senior, John Holmes who played an impressive third round firing the lowest round of the tournament during the third and final round ending the day with a five-under, 65. Holmes had five birdies for day three and moved up 33 places from day one to end the tournament tied for 12th, first for Kentucky. The Cats finished eighth in the tournament landing four golfers in the top-30 at the most prestigious tournament of the fall season.

The Cats next tournament is the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate which the team co-hosts with the University of Florida Oct. 11-12 in Tampa, Fla. Kentucky will compete against the Gators who are the only other top-five ranked competition at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate according to Golf World Men?s College Poll.
