UK senior Tigran Martirosyan took another step toward a berth in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships with an opening-round qualifier victory Monday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Martirosyan defeated Daniel Jung of San Diego State by a 6-2, 6-2 count and will meet Michigan State?s Cameron Marshall on Tuesday. Martirosyan must win singles matches on Tuesday and Wednesday to qualify for the main draw.

Senior Matt Emery and junior Alex Hume advanced in the doubles bracket with an 8-6 victory over Nebraska’s Gerard Pasch and Jose Rivera. Hume was eliminated from the singles draw by Tulane’s Jacobo Hernandez after dropping a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 decision. Junior Nate Emge dropped a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-5 decision to Clayton Almeida of Winthrop.
