LEXINGTON – UK sophomores Joelle Schwenk and Kim Coventry defeated fellow Wildcats in their respective singles finals, and senior All-American Aibika Kalsarieva successfully defended her top flight title Sunday at the Kentucky Fall Invitational.

Schwenk defeated junior Danielle Petrisko by a 6-2, 6-2 count in the white flight final, while Coventry dealt her classmate, Christine Simpson, a 6-0, 6-1 loss in the red flight final. Kalsarieva, the ITA?s ninth-ranked singles player, scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory over William & Mary?s 15th-ranked Megan Muth to capture the blue singles flight.

“This has been an incredible tournament for all of the teams and participants, and especially for our team,? UK Coach Mark Guilbeau said. ?It?s incredible for this team to win 26 matches to start the tournament and then to continue to play so hard and so well deep into the draws of each flight.? Sophomore Sarah Foster will begin play Tuesday in the qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles. Foster will be joined later in the week by Kalsarieva, who has earned a spot in the main draw. The remainder of the team will head for New York next weekend for the USTA Women?s College Tennis Invitational.
