University of Kentucky?s women?s golf team is hosting its only home tournament of the year, the UK Wildcat Fall Invitational this weekend at the University Club of Kentucky. Play will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. with an 11 team field.
?We are excited to have a fine and challenging course like the University Club to hold collegiate events at,? UK Director of Golf Operations Bettie Lou Evans said.
The women will be playing the three day tournament on the University Club?s Big Blue Course (par 71) throughout the weekend. Thursday?s practice rounds begin at 9 a.m. and tee times for Friday and Saturday are also at 9 a.m. Sunday play begins 8:30 a.m. The field for the invitational includes; Boston College, Eastern, Florida Southern, Kentucky, Marshall, Memphis, Miami, Mississippi State, Murray State, Richmond and Western Carolina.
?Having played the course many times before, this should give our women an advantage and hopefully the tournament title we have been looking for,? said Evans.
Many of the teams competing this weekend have seen each other in action previously this season. Kentucky?s JV team beat Eastern this past weekend by 14 strokes to claim the tournament title. Kentucky also met another competitor, Richmond at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic where the two teams tied for 12th place. Mississippi State, the only other SEC competition for the Cats, comes off a second place finish at the UA/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate last weekend.
Opening in 2002, the University Club of Kentucky became the official home of the UK men?s and women?s golf teams. The University Club of Kentucky features two 18-hole courses, one named the Wildcat and the other Big Blue, which the women will compete on. The internationally renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills designed the renovations to the 36-hole course. Each 18-hole course is approximately 7,000 yards in length and stretches across over 300 acres of rolling terrain. The courses are complimented by a dozen lakes and ponds.
