LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer team will look to break the school record for the longest home unbeaten streak when it hosts Ohio State on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
?Ohio State is a difficult team with great individual players,? said Kentucky coach Ian Collins. ?They?ll be one of the most talented teams we?ll play all year.?
Dating back to last October, Kentucky (5-2-1, 2-0 MAC) has not lost a home game, running its unbeaten streak at the Soccer Complex to nine. The run tied the mark previously set between the 1991-92 seasons and in the 1995 campaign.
The home streak isn?t the only one the Wildcats will be defending on Sunday. Kentucky is also riding a six-game unbeaten streak overall, which is one game shy of tying the school mark.
Last time out, the Wildcats held off Marshall for a 2-1 victory. Anthony Peters got the scoring started and Brandon Stewart tallied the winner in the contest. Peters goal extended his streak of games with a point (goal or assist) to five. During the run, he has two goals and three assists.
?Coming off a tough conference game, where there was a lot of energy, our guys are going to have to bounce back strong. We?ll have to show what we?re made of because this is going to be a difficult challenge,? Collins said.
Ohio State brings an explosive offense into Lexington. The Buckeyes have scored 11 goals in their past two games, including seven last time out in a win over Bowling Green.
?Ohio State has very good players. They are dangerous and can change the game,? noted Collins.
The game begins a run in which Kentucky faces three Big Ten teams in four games. Two of the contests come against No. 3 Michigan and No. 6 Indiana.
?The next group of games are going to be very hard,? said Collins. ?We?ve got to stick at it and keep progressing. We have to be consistently at it.?
