University of Kentucky?s men?s golf team will compete against the strongest field in collegiate golf this Sunday and Monday at The Preview hosted by Loyola College. Competing for the Cats are five seniors John Holmes, Mark Blakefield, Brandon Waldrop, Matt Wells and Jack Hudson. The tournament at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland will also play host to the 2005 NCAA Golf Championships.
The Cats join 14 of the nation?s top teams to play 36 holes on Sunday Sept. 26 and 18 holes on Monday. The prestigious field is determined by the 2003-04 Golfweek/Sagarian Rankings top ten teams at the end of last season as well as reigning National Champion, California. Host, Loyola and three other at-large bids are also accepted into the field. Kentucky, Pepperdine and UNLV all received at-large bids for the tournament. Florida, Clemson, UCLA, Georgia, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU complete this year?s field.
Caves Valley was designed by Tom Fazio which opened in 1991. Caves Valley has hosted the 1995 U.S. Mid-Amateur and the 2002 U.S. Senior Open.
