LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer team looks to extend its unbeaten streak to five games on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when it hosts Winthrop in the UK Invitational at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats had won three in a row before battling to a draw on Friday against Georgia Southern. The game will also be an opportunity for Kentucky to extend its home unbeaten streak to eight games dating back to last year.
Winthrop is 2-2 on the year after dropping a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime decision at Louisville on Friday night. The game, part of the UK Invitational, was originally scheduled for Lexington, but was moved at the last minute due to weather considerations from Hurricane Ivan.
A trio of Kentucky players is riding hot streaks entering the contest. Anthony Peters has a goal and two assists while Thomas Senecal has two goals and an assist in the Wildcat?s past three games. Peters? goal against Georgia Southern was the first of his career.
Current Mid-America Conference Player of the Week Jamal Shteiwi has three goals and an assist in that span as well.
Defensively, Kentucky has allowed just two goals in its past four games. Junior goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum has made 13 saves in that span.
The game will be preceded by a match up between Louisville and Georgia Southern, which begins at Noon.
