Kentucky managed one victory in seven singles matches on a rough first day at the Florida Fall Invitational Friday in Gainesville.
Senior Emily Foster claimed her first victory as a Wildcat after transferring from Southern Mississippi. Foster defeated Florida State?s Yana Stoeva by a 6-1, 6-0 count before suffering a defeat later in the day to Florida?s Nina Suvak. Kentucky went winless in its remaining five matches.
?We had a rough start today, but we just have to learn this and put it past us,? UK Coach Mark Guilbeau said. ?The players out there today were completely accountable for their performance, though we just didn?t play well today.? The action resumes in Gainesville on Saturday morning.
Sophomores Liis Sober and Caroline Winebrenner fared much better at the St. Mary?s Fall Tennis Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., posting one singles win apiece and two doubles victories together. They advance to Saturday?s doubles final against Tennessee?s Vicky Jones and Blakeley Griffith.
