A Kentucky team victorious in its last two matches looks to keep its winning streak alive Friday when the Cats play host to Missouri in an afternoon matinee. The Cats and Tigers are scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. EDT kickoff at the UK Soccer Complex. The start time previously had been scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.
Kentucky (2-4) enters the match upon a strong offensive showing last weekend against Cincinnati and Western Kentucky. UK recorded its first shutout of the season at Cincinnati on its way to a 3-0 victory and registered its highest scoring output in 10 seasons in its 8-2 victory over Western Kentucky at the UK Soccer Complex.
Sophomore forward Elisabeth Jones has recorded a goal or an assist in five of Kentucky?s six matches. Senior midfielder Alli Haeussler has dented the net in two consecutive matches and registered the first two-goal match of her career at Western Kentucky. Junior midfielder Jen Weakley also scored her first multi-goal match Sunday against the Hilltoppers.
Missouri (2-3-1) is preparing for its second SEC opponent in as many matches. The Tigers tied fourth-ranked Florida, 2-2, Sunday afternoon in Columbia, Mo. The Cats and Tigers share an early season opponent in Wisconsin. Kentucky dropped a 3-1 decision to the Badgers in the Cats? second match of the season, while Missouri sustained a 2-1 defeat a week later in Columbia. The Tigers are led by junior Jennifer Nobis, who leads Missouri with five goals and has netted goals in each of Mizzou?s last four matches.
The lone match between Missouri and Kentucky resulted in a 1-1 tie six seasons ago in Columbia. UK participated in the Missouri Nike Challenge in 2002 where the Cats defeated Illinois and Indiana.
Friday marks Hawaiian Day at the UK Soccer Complex. All fans in attendance will receive blue and white leis, and any fans wearing Hawaiian shirts will be admitted free of charge.
