LEXINGTON, Ky. ? After recording a 3-0 season-opening victory over Eastern Kentucky Wednesday, the University of Kentucky volleyball team will travel to Springfield, Mo., for the T.J. Sales Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, Sept. 3-4. The Cats will face host Southwest Missouri, Fresno State, Middle Tennessee State and Western Illinois in the two-day event at the Hammons Student Center.

The Wildcats open play Friday against Western Illinois at 1 p.m. ET, before taking on the host Bears at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, UK faces Fresno State at 1 p.m. and MTSU at 6 p.m.

Junior captain Amy Kaplan led the way for UK in the win over the Colonels Wednesday. The Cary, Ill., native, who struggled with injuries throughout her sophomore season, tallied her first career double-double Wednesday with 11 kills and 10 blocks on .348 hitting. Freshman Alex Montefalco had a great debut as a Wildcat, totaling 12 kills, 13 digs and three blocks for her first career double-double.

Senior Sarah Spinner put up big numbers with 13 kills and 10 digs, while junior Danielle Wallace continued to build on a solid sophomore season with 15 kills, which led all players. Reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year Jenni Casper proved her worth again and again with 21 digs and two service aces.

UK?s victory over EKU moved the Wildcats? all-time record in season openers to 20-8. Kentucky holds an identical record in home openers in Memorial Coliseum.
