FT. WAYNE, Ind. ? Freshman Callie Lanphier dented the net in her first match as a Wildcat, but Indiana managed two second-half goals to post a 2-1 exhibition victory over Kentucky at the IPFW/adidas Soccer Showcase at the Hefner Soccer Fields.
The Cats and Hoosiers traded scoring opportunities in the first half, but the teams took a scoreless tie into the intermission. UK sophomore Elisabeth Jones found a scoring chance in the 21st minute, but her shot sailed high over the crossbar. Indiana nearly posted a goal in the final seconds of the first half, but UK goalkeeper Anne Ogundele recorded the save.
The second half began with an Indiana goal in the 46th minute, but Lanphier answered in the following minute. The Denver, Colo., native drove through the left flank, turned toward the goal and beat the Hoosier goalkeeper from eight yards out for the lone Wildcat goal. Indiana reclaimed the lead in the 66th minute for the final 2-1 margin.
Kentucky wraps up its exhibition weekend Saturday evening when the Cats meet Northwestern at 9 p.m. EDT.
