Busy Day for the Wildcats: Saturday proved to be a busy day for the Kentucky football team as the Wildcats took part in Fans? Day activities followed by a three-hour practice at Commonwealth Stadium.

The players signed autographs and posed for photos with fans from approximately 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the stadium. After going to the locker room to get dressed for practice, the Cats returned to the field and had their first practice in pads this season.

The workout featured extensive scrimmage action, and after practice, offensive line coach Paul Dunn was asked about the progress of his young O-Line.

?Coach (Rich) Brooks has a saying, ?Let?s get a little better every day,? and that?s what we?re doing right now,? Dunn said. ?We?ve installed about 90 percent of the offense this week and will finish putting everything in during the next couple of days. After that, we have to decide what we want to keep and what we need to add.?

Offensive coordinator Ron Hudson also talked about the importance of the line play following Friday?s practice. UK returns two senior starters in the line, but has little experience after that and a total of only 10 scholarship linemen.

?It all starts with the line,? Hudson said. ?We have to see what they can do. It?s important not to ask them to do things they can?t do. We have to condense it enough so they can be successful.?

The Wildcats have sustained two major injuries in the past two days. Junior Dustin Williams, a returning starter at inside linebacker, is out indefinitely after sustaining a hamstring injury on Friday. Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Alex Wells sustained a dislocated ankle during Saturday?s practice and is expected to be out indefinitely.

The Wildcats return to the practice field Sunday afternoon. Per NCAA rules, the team will have its first day with two practices on Monday.
