Kentucky junior Jenny Pfeiffer has left the women?s basketball program, Coach Mickie DeMoss announced today. Pfeiffer has not decided if she will transfer or remain at Kentucky and not play basketball.
?I felt it was time to take my life in another direction, whether it is to play basketball elsewhere or to remain a student at UK,? Pfeiffer said. ?I love the University of Kentucky, the city of Lexington, and its many friendly people. I wish the women?s basketball program the very best.?
Pfeiffer, a 5-8 guard from North Vernon, Ind., was out much of her sophomore season with mononucleosis. She started in 17 games and was one of three players to average double digits prior to her illness, finishing with 11.8 points per game. She also missed 12 games as a freshman after breaking her left non-shooting hand in practice. She started 11 straight games prior to that injury and was the team’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game. Pfeiffer played in 32 games with 28 starts in her two-year career and holds a career average of 11.1 ppg.
?We wish Jenny the best and appreciate everything she has done for the Kentucky program,? DeMoss said. ?We also wish her the best of luck in whatever she decides to do in the future.?
Pfeiffer?s departure leaves the Wildcats with six returning letterwinners, including two starters, guard/forward Sara Potts and point guard Angela Phillips. UK also added six new players to the roster for the upcoming 2004-05 season, including the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country.
