University of Kentucky sophomore track athlete Ildiko Varga finished seventh in the women?s discus competition to earn her first All-America honor at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, Friday, June 11. The Heves, Hungary, native recorded a toss of 179-02.00 to earn two points for the Wildcats.
Varga has set and broken her own school record several times in her short two-year career at UK. Last month at the NCAA Mideast Regional, she tossed the discus 182-01.00 to set her current personal best and new school record. She finished second in the event to earn her spot in Austin this week.
Kentucky continues competition at the national meet tomorrow with Thomas Morgan competing in the men?s 5,000 meters. Jeff Chakouian will compete in the finals of the men?s shot put for Kentucky, while Brooke Patterson returns off a sixth-place preliminary finish for the finals of the 800 meters.
