Big Blue Caravan Begins Rolling Next Week: Golf, food, and fun are on the schedule as the University of Kentucky Athletics? ?Big Blue Caravan,? sponsored by Cooper Tires, will open the 2004 tour of the Commonwealth on Mon. May 3 in Northern Kentucky.

Football coach Rich Brooks and men?s basketball coach Tubby Smith will be among the UK coaches, administrators, and student-athletes who are scheduled for three events that day. The Caravan begins with a free meet-and-greet autograph session from 9-10 a.m. at the Cooper Tires store in Fort Mitchell, located at 476 Orphanage Road.

At 10:30 a.m., the Caravan will visit a local school for a community service event.

At noon, the Caravan will arrive at the Triple Crown Country Club in Union, Ky., for lunch, golf, and dinner. The event is sold out.

In addition to Smith and Brooks, additional UK head coaches slated to participate include Brian Craig (men?s golf), Gary Conelly (swimming), Mark Guilbeau (women?s tennis), Mike Lyden (diving), Harry Mullins (rifle), Ian Collins (men?s soccer), and Jona Braden (volleyball). Women?s basketball coach Mickie DeMoss will attend the dinner. Student-athletes who have committed to attend include Kelenna Azubuike from the men?s basketball team and Kara McCue of women?s soccer.

Openings are available at each location. The complete lunch, golf, and dinner package costs $125 per person. Or, fans may come to the dinner only for $20 each ($10 for children age 10 and under). Reservations must be made in advance and may be obtained by calling Lori Armstrong at UK Athletics, (859) 257-5526.

The first Big Blue Caravan stop in Northern Kentucky is sold out, so fans are encouraged to make their reservations as soon as possible at the additional locations.
