LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky men?s soccer team will play host to Centre College tonight at the UK Nutter Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats were originally scheduled to face Brescia College and Centre College in a triple-header with the opposing two teams playing each other as well, but the early games have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Admission is free to the public.
The game against Centre will feature three 30 minute periods with nine players from each team on the field.
UK has had a successful spring season thus far. The Cats downed Xavier, 4-0, in its opening game of the spring, followed by a tie against Dayton and a win over the University of Wolverhampton. This past weekend, Kentucky defeated Notre Dame, 1-0, in Indianapolis. The Fighting Irish reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2003.
The soccer Cats received numerous awards at the second annual Catspy Awards this past Monday. Head Coach Ian Collins received the Men?s Team Coach of the Year Award and freshman Riley O?Neill received the Male Rookie of the Year Award. As a team, men?s soccer was named Men?s Team of the Year and goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum received recognition for Male Play of the Year for his first save in a shootout against Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament first round.
