The Kentucky softball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference action this Wednesday when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in a doubleheader at Buckeye Field. The Cats have won five of their last six match-ups and are 17-5-1 against non-conference opponents this season.
UK (22-24-1) spilt a pair of contests with Western Kentucky last Wednesday in Bowling Green. The Cats, who are led by Rachel Friberg?s .345 batting average, will be returning from a week-long break with the meeting after taking the weekend off from SEC action.
The Buckeyes (26-17) won their first extra-inning game last Saturday, beating Michigan State in eight innings, 8-7, before dropping two to Northwestern on Sunday. Ohio State has six student-athletes batting over .300, led by Ashley Cutcliff?s .412 clip. Megan Schwab leads the team in hits with 41, while Jamee Juarez tops the club in RBIs with 30.
The Cats are 1-4 vs. OSU in the all-time series, including dropping two to the Buckeyes last year in Lexington.
