The 22nd-ranked University of Kentucky men?s tennis team (14-5, 4-2) kicks off its second road-trip in as many weekends Friday when the Cats visit 10th-ranked Georgia. The match is set for 5 p.m. EST at UGA?s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Kentucky defeated Georgia, a four-time NCAA Champion, twice in 2003, marking the first year the Cats have accomplished the feat. UK scored a 4-2 victory at the 2003 ITA National Team Indoors and a 4-3, five-hour triumph nine days later in Lexington. The Cats are facing a much tougher squad in 2004, led by senior Bo Hodge, the ITA?s fifth-ranked student-athlete. Junior Matias Ormaza joins Hodge in the ITA top 100 at No. 99, and Hodge teams with freshman John Isner to form the ITA?s fifth-ranked doubles pair. Kentucky counters with eighth-ranked Jesse Witten and No. 61 Tigran Martirosyan, who has won nine-consecutive matches. Witten and senior Rahim Esmail form the ITA?s 16th-ranked doubles pair.
The Cats and Dogs enter Friday?s contest winners of their last three matches. After a tough 4-3 loss at Auburn a week ago, Kentucky rebounded with a 6-1 win at Alabama and a pair of shutout victories Wednesday over Wright State and Eastern Kentucky. Georgia scored conference wins over Florida and South Carolina last weekend before defeating South Florida on Wednesday.
