The Kentucky men?s track and field team opened the Texas Relays Thursday with an impressive second-place finish in the 4 x 800-meter relay at Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Cats time of 7:25.14 tied a stadium record and was only .19 seconds behind the first place relay squad from Arkansas.
While the men?s team of Paul Ciurlys, Kris Landers, Hunter Spencer and David Freeman turned in a great showing, the women?s team also represented UK well in the women?s 4 x 800-meter relay. The team of Caitlin Philips, Beth Heimann, Georganne Way and Leah Kerstetter took seventh place among the 19 teams in the event with a time of 8:54.22. Olubusola Adeagbo also turned in an impressive showing in the 400-meter hurdles, taking third in her heat and 14th overall out of the 53 competitors in the preliminaries with a time of 1:01.11. The finals for the event will be held on April 3.
Also for the Cats, Gennessa Guzman finished 18th in the women?s hammer throw with a toss of 169-03.00 and Ben Brewster completed the men?s 400-meter hurdles in 56.65. UK resumes action tomorrow in Austin, and the final day of the prestigious competition will wrap up on Saturday.
